Stepper motors characteristics

Stepper motors offer several advantages vs. DC motors:

Rotation angle of the motor is proportional to the input pulse


Precise positioning and repeatability of movement (non-cumulative 3-5% step accuracy)


Excellent response to starting/stopping/reversing


Highly reliable due to lack of brushes


Wide range of rotational speeds can be realized as the speed is proportional to the frequency of the input pulses

Stepper motor can be an excellent choice whenever controlled movement is required




A stepper motor is an electromechanical device which converts electrical pulses into discrete mechanical movements. The shaft or spindle of a stepper motor rotates in discrete step increments when electrical command pulses are applied to it in the proper sequence. The motors rotation has several direct relationships to these applied input pulses.

Permanent Magnet Stepper motors

PM motors also called "can stack motors", have permanent magnets added to the motor structure. The rotor no longer has teeth, instead it is magnetized with alternating north and south poles.

Hybrid Stepper motors

2-Phase hybrid stepper motor combines the best features of both the PM and Variable Reluctance stepper motors. Advantages such as superior detent, holding and dynamic torque characteristics can be found in this technology.

3-Phase Hybrid Stepper motors

The drive circuit of a 3-Phase hybrid stepper motor is simplified because it is driven with a star wiring connection, this helps to reduce torque ripple and to obtain ultra-low vibration and very low noise levels.

Hollow Shaft Stepper motors

Available also as Hollow Shaft stepper motors the 2-Phase hybrid stepper motor combine the best features of both the PM and Variable Reluctance type stepper motors.

Flat Hybrid Stepper motors

Flat hybrid stepper motors take advantage of a design principle with an axial air gap and magnetic flux, with current that runs radially out from the center of the motor to its periphery and back.

Stepper motors with Encoder

Hybrid stepper motors equipped with an encoder generate real time position or speed information allowing adjustments to align conditions with those requested by the system.

IP65 Hybrid Stepper motors

Hybrid IP65 stepper motors are designed for harsh operating environments. These IP65 protection class stepper motors are completely dustproof and guarantee protection against water projections and low-pressure jets of water.
